Old family unification based permanent residence permits expire soon

Do you have Hungarian permanent residency based on family unification? Check what kind of card you have. If you have the old, laminated card that was issued between August 3, 2016 and August 2, 2021, instead of the newer, plastic one, it will expire as of August 3, 2026. Other permits remain valid.

2026 updates to work permit in Hungary – guest worker residence permit

The elections in April 2026 bought a regime change in Hungary, which promised a review of immigration regulations. As a first step of that reform, the so called “guest worker residence permit”, which is a specific type of work permit relevant only to mass employers and a small fraction of foreign workers, has become unavailable for new applications as of June 6, 2026. Ongoing procedures and existing permits remain unaffected, as well as other work permit types.
