Social security contribution in Hungary

Social security contribution is supposed to cover social services in Hungary including pensions, allowances, and public healthcare. It is most obvious as a payroll tax at 18.5% of the gross salary, which employers deduct and forward to the authorities on behalf of their employees. At the same time, it is also paid by self-employed people, and sometimes its rate may be higher due to minimum expectations.

Old family unification based permanent residence permits expire soon

Do you have Hungarian permanent residency based on family unification? Check what kind of card you have. If you have the old, laminated card that was issued between August 3, 2016 and August 2, 2021, instead of the newer, plastic one, it will expire as of August 3, 2026. Other permits remain valid.
